The Twain external tool makes it possible to scan images directly into Canvas when using a Macintosh-compatible scanner that complies with the TWAIN standard.
To use the Twain tool, place it in your Canvas Tools folder when Canvas is not running. The next time you start Canvas, the tool will be active and the Twain Scan submenu will be in the Object menu.
Selecting a scanner
To select the scanner you want to use, use the Select Source option of the Twain Scan submenu.
1. From the Object menu, choose Twain Scan: Select Source.
The Select Source dialog box appears. The names of all TWAIN scanners, for which Canvas can locate a data source, appear in the scrolling list.
Canvas looks for a TWAIN scanner’s data source in a folder called Twain. This folder is placed in your System Folder when you install the scanner software. If you are using System 7, the Twain folder is installed in the Preferences folder in your System Folder. If you are using System 6, the Twain folder is installed in your System Folder.
2. Select the scanner you want to use from the scrolling list and click OK.
The Select Source dialog box closes and the scanner you chose becomes the active scanner.
Acquiring a scanned image
To place a scanned image in Canvas, use the Acquire option of the Twain Scan submenu.
1. From the Object menu, choose Twain Scan: Acquire.
A dialog box with scanning options appears. The options in this dialog box depend on the scanner you are using. Refer to the scanner's user manual for information on these options, and information on using the scanner.
2. Use the scanner dialog box to set your scan specifications and place the scan in your Canvas document.
Depending on your specifications, the image is placed in Canvas as either a paint object or a picture object and can be edited accordingly. Refer to your Canvas manuals for information on editing paint objects and picture objects.
